Transferring, but screwed up first year.

Hi, I was just wondering if there is anyway to start over with college or if when transferring to a UC if the grades will transfer from the community college I attended. I really screwed up my first year (GPA is 2.4 right now). Upon entering college, I was very depressed & had problems with family. I didn't want to do anything. I know I should have gone to a doctor then to figure things out, but I just didn't want to do anything. This summer I went to the doctors & they helped with things a lot. I am now wanting to really work on college & get great grades. In high school I graduated with a 3.8 so I know I have potential it's just that I need to put forth effort. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Also I probably should mention that I am attending community college in Saint Louis, MO right now & will be moving to California with my dad next year.

Look into academic renewal at your school.

A 2.4 is recoverable! Take a year or two more at your CC and get that gpa up with buffer classes (UC’s like upward trends).

As far as completely starting over, you won’t be able to do that. When you get to UC you have a clean slate, but if you plan on applying to grad schood, med school, law school, etc they look at your transcripts from both CC and UC.

I think you’ll be fine long term. Plus a story of how you went from a 2.4 to a 3.7 makes for a really good personal statement.

Good luck to you.
