By any chance has anyone or known anyone who was able to transfer OUT of Revelle to anything besides Roosevelt? I'm a transfer student and my major is sociology hoping to change to communications if I go to UCSD. I finished my IGETC, (Community College GE) but the problem is that I got into Revelle, and their requirements are three calculus classes, 3 chemistry, physics, foreign language etc in which I did not take any at all in which may add an extra year. The other colleges accept IGETC (besides Roosevelt) in which I would be done with my GE and be able to take upper division only for my major. I understand if I was an engineer major or something, I'm suppose to take these classes anyways but I'm not and I was wondering has anyone ever been able to get out in some kind of a similar situation? I don't want to take the risk of going there one quarter and be rejected to transfer and get trapped.

My other college choice is UC Davis, if I would to go there, my GE would be done and I can focus on upper division and interns for my career instead of studying for subjects that I am horrible at and has nothing to do with my major. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thank you.

PS. If anyone has had any success in transferring colleges, what did you do? Any tips/hints on transferring?

Haha I'm in the same boat as you... however I got into ERC. So going to UC Davis would be better since I finished my IGETC. This is definitely one of the things I'm worried about (all the extra GEs to finish...).

Same boat, stuck between Davis and SD, got into revelle, looked at the GE.

haha.. yeah... is completing English at a community college count for those 5 humanities classes? Anyone know what classes are needed to take if the IGETC is done for Revelle?

Same here, I got into Revelle, but I didn't do IGETC I went straight for lower division breadth requirements and looking at it now, I have done two GE courses that will not add anything to completing my GE requirements if I were to go to Revelle. Also I have not done ANY foreign languages, I don't want to spend my time learning Spanish when I should be focusing on looking down microscopes.

Sixth college on the other hand is perfect for the courses that I have taken thus far... I read the FAQ and they say its very difficult for transfer students to switch colleges because they only allocate a certain number of transfer students to a college. They say the best way is to find another transfer student that wants to trade into your college...

SO.... ANYONE WANT TO TRADE THE OLDEST REVELLE COLLEGE FOR THE NEWEST SIXTH COLLEGE? PM ME!

^Darn. For transfers, switching colleges is hard, you say? :(
I got in to Roosevelt, but by the looks of it, Muir or Sixth would be better for my major. blah.

Quite frankly, I'm glad I got into Revelle.

Hey i got into sixth as a transfer but i'm switching my major from theatre to psychology so let me know if you wanna switch!

From the UCSD website:

"Q: Can I switch to a different college?

A: Yes, after you complete the writing program and if you can demonstrate that switching to a different college will allow you to graduate with fewer academic quarters."

I think this applies to transfers as well. You don't need to find someone to replace you at your college, though.

Here is my EMAIL reply regarding transferring to different colleges

"Unfortunately we do not allow any college changes at this point. If you are to accept the

UCSD admissions offer it must be with the understanding that you will be at Revelle College.

Once at UCSD students can request a college change. However, it is not a guarantee and there

is a possibility it will not be granted. College requests are handled by your college and not

admissions. Revelle College requirements are that the student must be at Revelle for one

quarter. In the second quarter (Winter 2009) the student can complete a request from in week

three or four only. The student must have a 2.75 and there is a unit requirement. You would need

to check with Revelle College at that time."

Wow, thanks for sharing the info. I'm a first year seeking to transfer out of ERC, and I was also wondering about the procedure and the requirements to transfer between colleges.
