Transferring colleges with 2 F's on my transcript?

Hello,
I’m currently a student at Miami University in Ohio. My parents talked me into going to this school because it was close to home and affordable however I fell in love with Mississippi State University when I was a senior in high school.

Anyways, this first semester at Miami was awful. I didn’t like the classes I was taking and I was struggling with a lot of mental health issues that have since been nearly resolved and I’m doing a lot better.

For my first semester I failed both my classes. It’s terrible because now I’m afraid I won’t get into my dream school in Mississippi. At my current school, you’re allowed to repeat a class and the newest grade will replace the older one but the F would still stay on my transcript but wouldn’t be factored into my GPA.

I guess my question is, if I do really well in all my other winter term and spring semester classes and get at least a 3.0 what are my chances of getting into Mississipp State or any other college even though I would have 2 F’s on my transcript? My high school GPA was about a 3.5 and I got a 27 on my ACT. I just really want to transfer mainly because the school that I’m at now doesn’t have my program that I want. Any advice will be appreciated thanks!

Can you get a retroactive withdrawal from those classes because of the mental health issues? If you were under the care of a physician or therapist, that might be possible.

If the courses are unrelated to your major, it could be worth it to see if you can transfer now even with the bad grades. Otherwise, your only option is going to be to retake the classes and pull your grades up before applying for transfer.

Mississippi State is absolutely terrible.
