I'm a community college student with a 3.72gpa and plan on transferring come next fall 2012. When I transfer will my gpa at the univeristy essentially start off on a clean slate? Ie: if the first semester there I get all C's then my college GPA is now a 2.0 or If I get all A's my GPA will be 4.0? (not considering + & - grading systems)

If this is true, then the GPA graduate schools will see is strictly the grades you have achieved at the last two years at the University?

I'm a bit confused on all of this, could use some clarity! Thanks

When you transfer from a CC to a 4-year university, only your credits will transfer. You will start with a new GPA. However, when you apply for graduate schools, they will calculate your GPA both from CC and 4 year-university.

If you get all C’s in your first semester at the university, you will have a 2.0 AT the university. But your overall GPA will NOT be a 2.0 when you apply to graduate schools.

I assume you are on the track for medical school. I suggest you maintain a good GPA at the university as well.

I am on the same boat as you. Wanting to go to dental school starting at CC.
