Transferring Directly to Ross Sophomore Year?

Hello, I am an honors student at Michigan State University and I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with transferring directly into Ross as a Sophomore.
I was quite fine with MSU since I was going in as an accounting major, and MSU is ranked very high in undergraduate Accounting (near rivaling uMich), however I’ve realized I don’t have that big of a passion for Accounting and am more interested in finance or business management, fields that Ross really excels at.
Yes, I’ve read the statistics and seen that the acceptance rate is around 1% for transfer applicants. I’m just wondering if there is any chance as a sophomore to be accepted or if all of those 1% that are accepted are juniors. If there is anyone who applied for transfer and managed to be accepted I would love a few tips or the chance to ask you a few questions.

As for stats, I’m a decent student (I’m not sure if I’m top 1%), but I would say I have a shot.I know I’m going to apply, as I may as well try, I just want to know if it’s worth putting maximum effort into my application

3.8 UW high school GPA (6 AP Classes giving 28 credits at MSU, around 16 at Umich)
32 ACT
I’m in the honors college at MSU
4.0 First semester GPA in college
16 Credits first semester with classes including Honors micro econ, Accounting, statistics, and honors writing
18 Credits Second semester with classes including marketing, honors macro econ, biology lab, biology
National Honors Society in High School
MSU Accounting Student Association member
MSU Running club member
I have a business related summer internship this summer already lined up

I’m wondering, do I have any chance applying as a sophomore? I feel like quite a large number of upcoming juniors likely apply for Ross and I feel like they have a much greater priority, thus making my chances essentially zero because of how few actually get accepted total.
Also, if there is any chance, is there anything I should be doing to improve my application? I’m obviously going to spend a huge amount of time thinking and writing about the essays, but is there anything else I should do? I realize leadership is likely a huge part, but it seems pretty difficult to find great leadership opportunities as a freshman. I’ll try to spend a bit of time focusing on that and see what I can do.

Thanks for any help, I appreciate it!

You should call the transfer office. Ross requires Calculus and Econ as prerequisites for application and the transfer office will have an equivalency chart for MSU and UM classes. I’d also check if you can transfer to LS&A and then apply to Ross after 1 semester.

Hey man, I’m in nearly the same boat as you. I’m a freshman at MSU, 32 ACT, and a 4.0 so far in college. I’ve been thinking about the Ross transfer for a while and I thought I could share some info with you.

1.) Ross is a three year program and cannot be accelerated.
2.) You need to take ECON 201, a first year writing class, and Calc 1 at State in order to apply.
3.) You can only apply at the end of each year, so you couldn’t be in a different college for Fall semester and then start at Ross in the spring.

@TooOld4School
Thank you for reminded me that you can transfer midway through the semester.
You’ve increased my confidence a lot and I’m almost for sure going to transfer.

Can you give an update on your plan to transferring to Ross?

did any of you guys end up transferring. I am in the same boat as you guys
