So I have been going to a JC for a little over a year now, and I have thought about transferring, even though I have not finished my GE and pre-reqs. Before I come to a full decision, I have a few questions to ask.

Will I need to submit a high school transcript, and will I need to take the SAT's?

If so I have a few bad grades in high school, so if I get really good SAT scores, will that increase my (slim) chances of getting into a UC?

Is it worth transferring early, or should I transfer when I'm done with my pre-reqs?

If it helps, I have a high school GPA of 2.8 and a JC GPA of 3.16, both cumulative. I also got a 5 on the AP calculus AB exam. My major is Aerospace and/or Mechanical engineering.

Will I need to submit a high school transcript, and will I need to take the SAT's?
- no you dont have to for UC's

If so I have a few bad grades in high school, so if I get really good SAT scores, will that increase my (slim) chances of getting into a UC?
- it's all about your college GPA. high school and SAT means nothing.

Is it worth transferring early, or should I transfer when I'm done with my pre-reqs?
- i dont think you can transfer unless you finish all your pre-reqs and have 60 credits.

JC GPA of 3.16
- look for a tag agreement with whatever UC you are applying to. unless you bring up your GPA, i dont think you will even be considered for UCLA/UCB. but then again, i dont know that for a fact. it doesnt hurt to try to get a higher gpa anyways.

good luck man.

It is nearly impossible for you to transfer to a UC unless you have completed 60 units.

I know that for Berkeley, it is 100% impossible, not nearly. :)

But then again I'm not sure that the OP is shooting for Berkeley.

Well its not impossible because I am friends with a sophmore transfer at Cal but then again she transferred from another UC. I thought it was impossible to.

Thought we were talking about JC? Yeah UC-to-UC is a different story.

From a JC, you need to have accrued at least 60 units by the Spring prior to Fall. Period.

Some campuses and programs will consider lower division transfer students (less than 60 semester units completed). The lower division applicant must have completed all Freshman eligibility requirements by the date of their high school graduation and most likely will be asked to submit high school records and test scores.
Please check University of California - Admissions closer to October to see which programs will be considering lower division transfer students.
