Hi so im a freshman at a university with a 3.0 gpa after the first semester. I know that it is bad however the university is allowing me to retake a course I received a 69 in for a new grade. All my other grades were B or better so my gpa will probably go up much higher after my second semester. Im looking to transfer out for the Fall of 2015 however I noticed allot of the application deadlines are March 1st well before the May 1st date in which my second semester grades are released. So im confused to how the colleges look at your grades if they dont have all of them in yet. Are they going to be looking at just my first semester grades or will they make a decision after they get my second semester transcript?
Most will give you a Yes or No answer based on your first semester transcript, your HS grades, and ACT/SAT test scores. Some will not give you a clear answer until your second semester grades have been submitted. That would mean that you won’t know until mid-May or later. Can you wait that long?
Colleges look at your first semester grades. Actually, with schools with a transfer credit minimum (say, 30 credits), they aren’t expecting fall sophomore transfers but rather second semester sophomore transfers. A way to bypass this would be to have AP/IB credit.
In short, if you don’t have the minimum credits required, you can’t apply this fall.
