Transferring from a 4 year to a CSU or a UC

After spending a year at a 4 year private university I have realized that I made the wrong decision in choosing the school and want to move back to California and transfer to a CSU or a UC. I realize that I am too late in the game now to apply to transfer to one of these schools for this upcoming fall so I was planning on taking community college courses for a year and then transferring. Here are my questions:

  1. How do i figure out if my courses that I took at my current college transfer to a uc or csu?
  2. Will it be possible for me to transfer for my junior year after a year of community college plus the course work from my current college(providing that it transfers)?
  3. Can you transfer to a uc or csu with less than 60 units?

thank you!

The are rare exceptions for the CSU’s and UC’s to accept a transfer below 60 units, so it could be possible but I believe there is the caveat of “if there is room” which there usually is not. It you plan to go to a CCC, then I would check with a transfer advisor there to see which courses may articulate to the CSU’s and UC’s. I would aim for the 60 unit minimum for the best chances in transferring since there is so much competition to get into all these schools.

www.assist.org could help you figure out which courses you have already taken that may transfer to the CSU’s and UC’s. You enter the CCC and the transfer university to get a list of courses that will transfer. You can try to match them to your private university courses by course description. If you want some good information on UC transfers, I suggest you post in the UC transfer thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

Good Luck.
