Hi everyone,
I’m looking to transfer to a 4 year university from a CC as soon as possible, but I’ve been very stressed out by the process. I’ve met with two different College Counselors at my CC and they weren’t too helpful. I would love it if you guys could help me out! I’ve had a hard time getting things together and as a result this is my 4th year at a CC (I graduated from HS in 2011). I spent the first 2 years apathetically completing my GE requirements for my inevitable transfer. It wasn’t until last year that I really took things seriously and followed my initial instinct, which was to study Film Production. I did the best I could and my grades have improved significantly, but unfortunately my GPA (with a whopping 125 units) currently stands at a 3.18 because of those first few years.
I believe I’ve missed the deadline for a Fall 2015 transfer, but I’d like to graduate as soon as possible so I may try for a Spring 2016 transfer. But there’s so much I don’t know- if I’ve been a full time student at CC for almost 4 years, have I accumulated enough units to transfer and get a bachelor’s by attending a university for only one year? Or should I expect to do two years? Would that answer be vary between a public (UC) with a preferred transfer agreement vs. a private?
Here’s why I feel so overwhelmed- from the research I’ve done, it seems that most universities worth investing in for Film Production probably wouldn’t accept me as I currently stand. Am I right about that? I’m not shooting for USC or NYU, more like LMU or Chapman. Still, I don’t feel too hopeful. I’m certain I can make it into most UC’s that aren’t Berkeley or LA, but those don’t specialize in Film Production.
Given my current standing, what would be the best thing I could do? I would like to transfer and graduate as soon as possible, but I’m not sure where to go. At this point, is Film Production something I should pursue from a lesser university, or should I go to a public university and study something different (Film Studies, maybe)? I have so many questions and really haven’t found anyone to help me out, so I’d really really appreciate some feedback from you guys.
