Transferring from a CC (some questions)

Hello all,

I had a bit of a rocky start at my community college (Northern Virginia Community College - NVCC), which is reflected in my transcript. At first I started off wanting to do Engineering, and transfer out to Virginia Tech. The results of that disastrous semester are evident in the transcript below. Feeling hopeless and at a virtual dead end, I suddenly remembered how much I had enjoyed Economics the Summer before, and resolved to switch majors to Business and dare to try for UVA instead. My plan right now is to apply for McIntire at UVA, with either Economics at UVA (School of Arts & Sciences) or Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech as backups.

Questions:

1) Will Fall 2006 haunt me the rest of my life?

2) Should I be taking a more challenging courseload for Fall 2007? The current classes are just to finish out my Associates degree (mandatory Physical Education, Student Development classes, etc.)

3) If I'm not in Engineering anymore, is it worth it for me to retake Electric Circuits I? Or am I just torturing myself for no reason.

4) Should I retake the SATs? Last time I took it they were still on the 1600 scale (I scored a 1450).

5) Any other advice about where to go from here?

Thanks in advance :)

I'm not an expert, but I am familiar with the NVCC system. I think you have a good chance of getting into UVA for the fall semester, especially being in-state. Your past summer record is outstanding. Well done! You must have been busy. I'm positive they will look favorably upon that. Just do well in this coming fall semester and I'm sure you will be fine.

One other thing I wanted to note was that I don't think SDV 100 transfers to UVA. It might be a waste of time. Also, unless electric circuits is needed for gen ed requirements or your major, there's no point really doing it unless you just want to prove to them that you can pass.

Here's the link with what transfers:

<a href="http://www.web.virginia.edu/ArtsSci/credit/new_courses.asp?college=Northern+Virginia+Community+College&submit=Go%21%5B/url%5D">http://www.web.virginia.edu/ArtsSci/credit/new_courses.asp?college=Northern+Virginia+Community+College&submit=Go%21</a></p>

Sorry, I see that you are just trying to get the associates. They do offer guaranteed admission to transfers from the vccs who have an associates and a gpa of 3.4 or above, but that is for the arts and sciences department.

<a href="http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/docs/agreement.doc%5B/url%5D">http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/docs/agreement.doc</a></p>

That was, indeed, a very busy summer :)

SDV is, as you mentioned, to fulfill the requirements for an associates at NVCC. It's sort of a back-up plan, to at least get into the Economics department (Arts & Sciences).

I really, really, really do not want to take Electric Circuits again if I can help it, I just don't know how unfavorable not retaking it would look, especially since I failed it the first time around.

Also, this is sort of just to wrap up my associates in the fall so they can see all the completed grades when I send in my application, instead of finishing it in spring which would transfer anyways. I wonder if it would be better to save that stuff (the humanities, physical education, fine arts, etc.) for spring, and take business-related / "challenging" courses instead.

Thanks for the reply :)

what happened in circuits?
