I am going to community college for my senior year of high school and would like to transfer to a university after 1 year of community college. I know the requirement for transferring is 2 years or 60 units, but would it be possible to complete 60 units in 1 year?
Why do you want to do this?
It’s not 2 years OR 60 units.
It’s 60 units of the correct coursework.
What’s the hurry?
Average amount of credits taken by a student, per semester = 15 credits
Average time needed to complete 60 credits = 4 semesters
Assuming you’re on the semester system, and you have no AP credits, you wold have to take 30 credits every semester. Not only would administration not allow it, but it’s effectively impossible to do well with this course load.
Some people kill themselves with work by taking a mere 18 credits.
If you have not graduated from HS and are doing dual enrollment at the community college as a Senior, then you would not be a transfer but a Freshman applicant with college courses and the 60 units would not be required. Which 4 years are you targeting? If you have already graduated and are then doing CC courses, you would be a transfer. AP courses can count towards your 60 units but it will depend upon the schools you are targeting.
Oh, no, I’m actually leaving high school a year earlier so my technically senior year of high school would be at a community college
Is there the possibility that I could take classes over the summer as well as enroll at different colleges for different classes or do classes online?
Well, I want to graduate early and I wish I left high school my junior year instead o senior year
Yes, you can take CC courses over the summer and on-line. Just make sure you are not overloading yourself and end up with bad grades. Also make sure that all courses are transferable to your target universities and can meet all the course requirements for transfer.
You also need to be aware that if you are in need of financial aid, in-coming Freshman get better aid than transfers. I think you would be in a better position if you apply as a Freshman and finish your Senior year with DE courses instead of graduating early. My 2 cents…
My child transferred to a university after one year and 26 credits. No issues at all.
If at all possible, don’t graduate from high school, and just take all your classes dual enrollment at the CC anyway. Freshmen get better financial aid/support/admissions results than transfers.
