I’m applying for Fall 2017 as a business undergrad from a community college. My GPA is 3.78, I have an internship in my field and have several business related work references, as well as a few clubs I’m involved in at school. My goal is to get into the best school possible, but I would prefer not to go to an overly expensive private school, and it would also be better if I could stay in California. I also was disappointed to learn that most of the UC’s only offer economics and not business as a major (except for UC Berkeley or Irvine). With that in mind, my top choices are:
- UC Berkeley Haas
- Cal Poly SLO
- San Diego State
- San Francisco State
- CSU Long Beach
- San Jose State
My first choice is definitely Berkeley, and I’m pretty undecided after that. I feel I should mention I’m from the bay area and have already made a few connections here. I really like Cal Poly SLO but also hear it may not necessarily be the best location for making business connections, maybe some of you could speak to that. So a few questions I have are
- What are my chances of getting into Berkeley Haas given my GPA of 3.78, with strong extra- curriculars and work experience, and also assuming I write very strong essays in my application?
- Are there any schools not on this list that I should consider? And I feel I should repeat that I would like to avoid paying 50k a year for a private school. I plan on getting my masters degree so if I'm going to be spending that much on school, it will be for my masters. Also, I know it's popular to hate on the CSU's, but keep in mind they offer business majors and UCs don't!
