Transferring from A&M to UMICH

So...
I applied last fall as a freshman to Michigan because it is my life long dream school. I got deferred then eventually rejected. I decided off of a whim to go to Texas A&M because its a decent school for cheap and I had a bunch of friends going here. I just am not happy, I just don't like the school, and I want to be happy with where I go to school.

I was wondering what the opinions on transferring after this spring into umich.
Also, do you guys think that I could get in?

high school gpa: 4.01 (out of 4, ap classes were out of 5)
class rank: 50/280
Act: 33 (33 English, 34 Math, 32 Reading, 32 Science)
College gpa: probably going to be around 3.6-3.8

Current classes: honors calc 1, gen chem and lab, computer science, poly sci (15 hours)

i think u got serious shot at getting in, just make sure you have at least 60 credits or you are in junior level standing

that’s the thing…
If I take summer classes this summer I will have 55, so I will not be in junior standing

I have very similiar stats to you and applied EA to michigan this year. It is my first choice as well and I was just wondering why you think you got deferred/rejected.

i hope everything works out/ worked out for you and i’m sorry you didn’t like your school. i was reading over the michigan class of 2017 EA thread and my jaw dropped when i read you didn’t get in with the stats you do.

When I got my rejection letter (when I was at the elite 8 at the Michigan basketball game) I was honestly thought the same thing as you as well. I thought with a 33 act and applying to LSA it would have been all but a sure thing. The only thing that kept me sane was the fact that I had already regretfully decided to go to A&M. I did not send in my mid-term transcript from high-school nor my dual-credit grades. I try to convince myself that would have changed things, but I just don’t know. The other thing that could have held me back was that my class rank was relatively low, I think somewhere in the 18% range - not low just low for UMICH. The last thing is that I did not give any effort in high-school and only took like 3 or 4 AP classes. I wish I could have known what set them off from my application, but I can’t.

I would guess 99 times out of 100 though that someone with an ACT score of a 33 and good high-school stats would get accepted. Maybe the fact that I was out of state made a difference. I wouldn’t be too worried if I was you though, however that is easier said than done…

Everything will work out, as I am sure that you will have other great options in front of you. I know it is a long wait though and if you get into UMICH, as I think you will, definitely GO! I have not visited any other school that combines a city with A2 with amazing academics, social life and pride for the school.

Good luck I pray everything works out and GO BLUE!

Oh and I saw that you are also in-state, which should give you a little boost as well!

“did not send in my mid-term transcript from high-school nor my dual-credit grades.” That was your problem right there. Not completing the application is very high on the list of things that disqualify you. Remember they are looking for anyone reason to toss an application out because so many people are applying.

Well that makes me feel better, just like an idiot however because I could have gotten in possible

EDIT: please don’t think I’m too dumb to submit my stuff. I was trying to convince myself that I wanted to go to Texas A&M at the time and didn’t want to think about UMICH

UPDATE:

I just finished my first semester with a 3.96 gpa through 27 hours. I plan on applying to LSA for Computer Science. What do you think my chances are?

i really appreciate your feedback. you’ve definitely calmed me down a bit.
Best of luck to both of us!
