I have completed my freshman year at a private California university and will be entering my sophomore year in the fall. I didn't like what my school had to offer and didn't love the social scene. I was considering transferring to a UC (i.e. Davis, Santa Cruz, Irvine) after my sophomore year was finished. However, I heard students have a higher chance getting into a UC if they went to a CCC for at least two years. Is this true?

Also, I was thinking of switching to a CCC for my sophomore year to get a better chance of getting into a UC. Would you recommend I do that? Has anyone tried doing this in the past?

I finished my freshman year off with a 3.1 GPA and completed most of the core curriculum . Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Many students started at one college then transferred to a community college, and later transferred to a UC (or CSU or private).

However, if you plan to use TAG, you will have to comply with the following regarding semester units -
Only students transferring directly from a California community college (CCC) are considered for a TAG, including international students (those with a visa). A CCC transfer student is one who has completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferrable units at one or more California community colleges, and the last college the student attended in a regular session (fall/spring or fall/winter/spring) before admission to a UC campus is a California community college. All UC campuses that offer TAG’s require students to meet this definition.

So you will have to complete 30 semester units before you would be eligible to TAG.
