Hey Guys. I have been recently admitted to BC A&S (wohoo) and i was wondering if anyone here has ever tried (or knows someone that has tried) to transfer from A&S to CSOM before freshman year. At the time of my application, i was slightly undecided as to whether i wanted to pursue a major related to the sciences or business and i thought that applying undecided to A&S would be best due to the fact that A&S offers a more vast array of majors. My plan was then to, if my interest in the sciences decrease, try to transfer into the business school. However, I later found out that unlike at many other colleges, transferring to the business school AFTER freshman year is incredibly difficult. Can anyone please tell me the possibility of transferring to CSOM before freshman year/ this august. Its definitely gonna be a deciding factor for me in attending, as i don’t want to spend my time + parents money in something that might not be possible and being stuck with a major that i don’t want. My interest in BC is extremely high, and if i am able to transfer to CSOM before freshman year, i will most likely attend.

However, In the case that this is not possible, could anyone shed light on the difference between studying Econ at A&S vs CSOM?
Thanks guys! :-)

@RCLVRR- To my knowledge I have never heard of transferring to CSOM prior to freshman year. Because CSOM is a different school, you would have had to apply to that school.

This comes up every year. It’s very hard to transfer into CSOM internally in general. It won’t happen prior to freshman year. The Econ concentration (not major) in CSOM is 6 courses, as opposed to a 10 course major in A&S. An end run is that A&S students can take up to 8 courses in CSOM so they get a chance to cherry pick courses - you might find that a very useful way to take what you want in CSOM.

My DS was admitted to CSOM (Class of 2017), and during an admitted student day presentation, we were told CSOM only has capacity for 500 incoming freshmen each year. However, for the past several years, each year upwards to 75 more students have accepted seats in the college. I believe the number ended up being 71 for the class of 2017. Therefore, unless there is a large amount of students dropping or transferring out of CSOM, they simply cannot accept any new transfer applicants.

Because of the popularity of CSOM, odds are, for the class of 2018 they will again exceed 500 acceptances. You need to be realistic and recognize your chances of transferring into CSOM are very low.

Thanks for the insight guys! Studying Econ at A&S actually does not seem too bad now, considering i cld actually take classes at CSOM… i think i might actually do that. Does anyone know if business firms/grad schools prefer graduates from CSOM over Econ majors from A&S?

Recently returned from BC visit with kid. Guide was senior econ major with good job lined up. Like others here have said, basically no one transfers into CSOM. Seems that BC has a lot of programs in place that help kids of all stripes market themselves, do well in interviews, get internships and get jobs after graduation. Sounds like you will have nearly every opportunity ( except to be an accountant) from CAS that the CSOM kids have. Congrats to you. BC looked great.
