Transferring from a UK university to US university in second year of undergrad

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and it’s all overwhelming especially having not fully decided to do so yet. I need advice as to whether this sounds like a good idea or that it may derail me. I want to start a new degree too.

Changing majors can add a year or more to your college. Can your parents afford to pay for a 5th year of school? Transfers don’t generally get a lot of aid, so whether or not transferring is worth it depends on how much your parents can pay.

How different is your new field of study from your old one? There is a big difference between going from a physics major to engineering, and going from a physics major to comparative literature.

Usual questions that CC’ers ask include:

  1. ability to pay. Can’t emphasize this one enough
  2. characteristics- size, setting, dominant culture
  3. subject area
  4. stats & level of selectivity
