Transferring from Boston University

Hey everyone,

I'm really unhappy at BU. It feels like I'm not even at college. The social life sucks and it's really hard to make friends. I want to transfer to another school. My stats are:

Freshman (completed one semester so far)
GPA: 3.15 (hoping to raise this semester)
SATs: 1880
I think that my low GPA is due to some grade deflation here - my high school gpa was 3.6
I'm in the National Honor Society and have done plenty of community service.

What are my chances of getting into American University, BC, Fordham, Georgetown, Trinity, Middlebury, or even placed like UPenn or Duke (have a legacy at Duke)?

BC, Georgetown, Penn, Duke are way out of reach for you.

Above poster is right. Look more into American, that seems possible.

How did you get into BU with an 1880?

@soze - I don’t think getting into BU with an 1880 is unheard of – a lot of kids (especially full pay kids) can get into BU with ~1850.

However, to address OP’s question - transferring to all of those schools bar American is gonna be damn near impossible with a 3.15.

@soze and @preamble1776 I got into BU because I am a well-rounded and driven student. If these schools aren’t right what other schools are on-par with BU?

Agreed, 1880 is not bad for BU. After all BU is not Ivy nor even Ivy quality. At least a half dozen state universities are better than BU (Michigan, Berkeley, UCLA, UT-Austin, for starters).

Fordham might actually be within reach (along with American), but not sure you will like the social life there much more than BU.

Recommend trying to shoot for Duke with your legacy, but then bring it down a couple of notches. How about Marquette of Villanova? (are you Catholic? ref: Fordham, BC, and Georgetown) Also, consider Stoney Brook or Binghamton.

Having said all that, it is getting late for transfers. You have only a month or so. Seriously consider small liberal arts colleges too. Suggestions: Stonehill, Ohio Wesleyan, Furman (part of the Duke trust, perhaps legacy might help…), University of Puget Sound, Juniata, and Goucher.

@NROTCgrad Thank you, what other schools are similar to Villanova that I would be able to get into? I’m not catholic they just happen to be schools of interest.

Well, how about Ithaca College, Marist College, and Quinnipiac?

Also, some good state schools come to mind. University of Pittsburgh is a good choice and the city is actually pretty cool. College of New Jersey is very good too.
