I want to do engineering, and though Brown is great, I'd like to go to a more rigorous school, like MIT. Just out of curiosity, how much do you think coming from a school like Brown would help in transfer admissions as opposed to other schools?

Or do you know, do most ppl applying to MIT come from 'less competitive' schools, or is Brown pretty much average in terms of the appliant pool?

You may have trouble getting MIT to accept your Brown coursework in engineering as equivalent to MIT’s coursework in engineering so you may end up repeating classes.

lol, i’m not really too concerned about repeating classes as I am getting in, in the first place!
just from your general knowledge, how much would the fact that i’m transferring from brown help?

just out of curiosity, any input appreciated.

i don’t think they so much as care that you go to brown as how well you took advantage of what it has to offer. If i had to guess, your Brown-ness will have a minimal effect on your admissions. They will probably too busy looking at your GPA, ECs, SATs, etc. So if you are really intent on getting in MIT, I’d suggest you show them that you are using all of Brown resources to the maximum, and that it is still does not satisfy you.

it helps marginally. MIT regularly has students do the reverse transfer to brown…
though your situation begs the question, why didn’t you apply to MIT in the first place. or did you and just not get accepted?
regardless, it’s always worth a shot
