Hey everybody,

I just have a couple of quick questions about transferring schools, either from LCC to the University of Michigan or from LCC to Michigan State. I've decided to post in this board primarily because I don't think I'd be able to afford Michigan's tuition without taking out private or Parent-Plus loans. Since my ultimate goal is medical school, it makes more sense, in my mind, to attend the cheaper of the two institutions and hope to get into a better program later on.

Right now, I have 31 credits from Lansing Community College, and will be submitting a transfer application about Fall Semester. By the time I'll all wrapped up in Spring, I'll have approximately 59 credits, of which 51 should be transferable. I also have an additional 12 AP credits from high school that I forwarded to Michigan State after completing the end-of-year AP exams.

I do think I should say that I was rejected from Michigan State when I applied as a freshman. That's not to say I'm surprised, because I'm not - my ACT scores were really good, but my GPA was 2.86 and I had a juvenile criminal record comprised of two felony adjudications (note: not convictions). I decided to forgo applying for Fall 2012 because of my number of transferable credits, and because I wanted to not have to deal with forwarding my high school records.

If I maintain my current GPA, I'll have a 3.96 at the end of either this Fall or Spring. I'll have completed up to Honors Calculus I before transferring, as well as quite a few social science and biology classes. I've served on the governing board of an RSO at Michigan State as a non-student adviser, and have, in the past, participated in several other student organizations at the same school. I'm employed and am on my second of two jobs in the past year.

I've also volunteered in the ER at Sparrow Hospital for 3 years, worked as a county coordinator for a congressional campaign (although the candidate did drop out after about three weeks), and have served on several well-attended discussion panels while on the e-board for my group at State.

I think I'm probably fine to get into State, but am worried about one thing in particular - when I was 14, I was adjudicated guilty of two felonies, neither of which are regarded as convictions or are narcotics-related; however, they will stay on my record until I'm 30. From everything I've heard, nobody should really care about this, provided I stay out of trouble (which I've done) and keep my head down. I even talked to admissions at the College of Human Medicine, and they said they just took things like that on a case-by-case basis.

Everything considered, should I probably be fine for MSU in Fall of 2013? What about Michigan, should I decide to apply? MSU is probably where I'll end up, because I live only a few minutes outside of East Lansing and wouldn't have to pay all the extra money for housing and meal plans. I guess I'm mostly just worried about the two adjudications. They'll be over five years old by the time I'm actually at State (six years having passed since the incidents even occurred), and obviously I've been able to find employment regardless. The fact that I do believe I've been passed over for several jobs for that matter does worry me that MSU might find some fault with what I think is an otherwise okay-application.

Thanks - apologies for the long post.
