Hello,

I was just curious because I might be moving in with some friends in Seattle and would like to transfer to YW Seattle. However, I understand that the acceptance rate from community colleges is only %30? I was wondering if anybody has had any success getting in with a GED?
I was a homeschooled and haven't gone to school for a while because i wanted to take time and see what i really wanted to major in. Now I want to go back to double major in sociology and humanities and then to on to graduate school for social work. I do a lot of art, classical music (I've been a pianist for 8 years). Ive done a lot of volunteering for hospice (visiting patients and more) as well as children's and single parents living in poverty and religious organizations. I've also done some activism work as well as organizing petitions and public education about a certain cause.

If any of you can share stories on how you got in or any help and advice, I would really appreciate it. I would really appreciate any responses. Thank you :)

Kind regards,
Anne

No I’m sorry UW not YW!

30% isn’t UW’s acceptance rate, it’s the percent of spots they reserve for community college transfers I think :)

According to UW’s site, the admission rate for WA state community college transfers is actually 72%.

Sorry, forgot to mention that was stats from 2008! I think the percentage has dropped since then.

90% of transfer spots are for those from CCs. 10% for those from 4 years.

[University of Washington Transfer eNewsletter](<a href=“University of Washington Transfer eNewsletter”>University of Washington Transfer eNewsletter)
Admission rate for transfers <90 credits was 59.9% and 66.5% for those with >90 credits.
For those from 4 years it was 24.2%.

Thank you for your replies. Now I am jus going to think about it because I’m not sure if I’m moving there or not. I just would like to know if it’ll be worth. I will ask what my chances are of getting in with all of my background and activities? I actually have been taking classes at a community college and have a 3.5-3.7 gpa.

The preference given to CC students is for in-state community colleges. If you are trying to transfer from an out of state CC your odds will be similar to trying to transfer from a four year university.
