Transferring from CC vs. CSU vs. UC?

First of all, I'm limiting the mentioned public schools to those found in California only.

I've been wondering, does your chance of transfer acceptance change depending on which university you attended beforehand?

For example, if one sought to transfer to UCLA, UCSD, or UCB, would those who look at the applications put much weight on which type of school they completed their first few semesters/quarter/years?

If they saw three different applications in which the students attended SBCC (community college) vs. Cal Poly SLO vs. UCSB, would all three have a different chance of being allowed to transfer? And if so, is the difference big enough to matter?

Start at CCs. It’s cheaper and it raises your odds.

I’m not asking because I intend to transfer, I’m simply curious lol

Let’s say that the fees and all that weren’t an issue. What would you say then?

Still CCs. You get priority in transferring.

Yes it does matter greatly. The policy at UC is that CC is a 2 year school with the intention to transfer. UC and CSU students already have chosen a home, thus the transfer priority is given to the CC students. Probably true of CSUs as well. It may be hard to really test, since the numbers and the populations are so different. But a very accepted route to UC (and likely to CSU) is through CC. It is institutionalized, with formal agreements in place and contracted course equivalencies that are database searchable (check out assist.org). There is no question that CC is the better place to start, and that the CC with the closest affiliation to the particular UC being targeted (check the UC website) is a bit of a better place to start.

Wow, thank you. That was extremely informative

I plan to give some information at local high schools in my home area, so this kind of info is invaluable, thanks much :)
