Transferring from CMU

How do you think I fare with a 3.5 or higher to possibly around 3.7 by the end of the spring semester at CMU to transfer into Cornell for fall '05? Extracurricularly I will have done student EMS and some intramural sports (ping pong). My SATs were 1410 (740M 670V) when I applied as a high school senior.

I would transfer into Cornell's engineering school from CIT.

From what the people that have came to my high school have told me about cmu, a 3.5 is amazing, and extremely hard to get, if that really is the case, you probably have an extremely great chance of making it as a transfer student, btw why do you want to transfer?

I wouldn't say that a 3.5 from this school is necessarily amazing, but it is a rather good GPA. I do realize that CMU is very well respected, and your reply does reflect that fact very well. I just wonder whether the admins at Cornell have such a high opinion. To answer your question, Cornell had been my first choice school last year, and I made some serious mistakes in applying to it. I would like to, at the very least, prove to myself that I can gain admission into it. I suppose I cannot claim that Cornell is necessarily better than CMU, but I feel a personal attachment to the former. I do not have any negative reason to leave CMU - so do not let my intensions spoil your view of this school. I just suppose that I would feel more at home at Cornell, as it had been a long-time dream of mine to go there.

Does anyone happen to have any statistics showing the caliber of the transfer student that is accepted?

Hey ten20jj, you should come to transfer section. I'm a prospective transferee this year as well. I'm having a little trouble finding the link for transfer stats, but ill post later

Here it is
<a href="http://dpb.cornell.edu/irp/pdf/FactBook/Admissions/Undergraduate/Transfers/transbycoll.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://dpb.cornell.edu/irp/pdf/FactBook/Admissions/Undergraduate/Transfers/transbycoll.pdf</a></p>

Thanks for the info CNCL. 37.8% external transfer acceptances for male engineering students. Not too bad, I'd have to say. What do you think, after GPA, is the most important aspect of the application? I may have some trouble obtaining good recommendations, because the only professor I really know is my english one. Also, they don't happen to give the details of these transfer students (ex their GPA, university, etc), do they?

In my opinion and from what I've been told, I'd probably have to say ecs(researches), but I guess it really varies from person to person, say if you have a almost perfect gpa, than i guess maybe ecs won't matter as much as say when you have a 3.5. Also recommendations and essays are just as vital.
