Transferring from Community College, Good College Gpa, Low Highschool GPA

Hello all! First off I would like to thank anyone who reads this regardless if you comment or not, here is my questions / concerns.

This september I will be a sophomore at Bristol Community College. My first year I have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 and 25 credits (took a 1 credit course requirement).

I made deans list both semesters, and I am attending my 3rd semester in which I will have a total of 37 Credits by Spring. I want to transfer out of BCC and into UMass for my 2nd half of my sophmore year, AKA this upcoming spring semester. I called Umass Admissions, they said I need to send my high school transcripts and SAT Scores because I have under 27 credits.

Here is the only problem, I did not take high school seriously and I earned a 1.9 GPA, non honors, non AP classes.

I talked to admissions at my community college, the lovely woman told me sending my high school transcripts wont necessarily "hurt" me because UMass will see how much I have improved at junior college.

What do you guys think? Do you think this will lower my chances of getting in because my 1.9 GPA and low sat scores? Between all 3 scores I have a 1370 and between reading and math I have a 940, which is the minimum required SAT scores for UMass.

I also have a friend who transfered from Rhode Island College with a 3.0 College GPA, he had to send his Highschool transcripts in as well but he had a 3.0 highschool gpa with honors and got accepted into UMass for his spring semester of his sophmore year. (The same thing I am trying to do)

Thank you so much, sorry for this long post.

I think you have a decent chance of getting in based on your 3.6 GPA.

However, if you are in the right program that will lead to an Associate’s degree after two years, you are likely guaranteed admission to UMass with reduced tuition if your GPA is high enough (3.6 would qualify).

Here’s the list, enter your schools and see:

So if you qualify, at worst you may have to potentially spend one more semester at Bristol, and you’ll save some money after that.

I am in the General Studies Mass Transfer program, however I would like to major in psychology and become an addiction counselor. Thank you for the positive reinforcement.

I have the same problem! Did you end up getting in? What did you end up doing?
