Transferring from community college to a university?

Right now, I’m a junior and I have a gpa of 3.3 (it’ll be more when this year is over because I got straight A’s this year) but that’s a bad GPA (due to freshman year grades which were C’s and partly sophomore year grades, which were mainly B’s) and I have a 1680 on the SAT (first time) which sucks too. I have like zero extra curricular activities and I’ve been signing up for volunteer programs and applying for tons of jobs all year but I have no luck so far.

Anyways, clearly I won’t get into the kind of school I want to get into (Penn State, Florida State, etc.) so I’m thinking about going to community college for the first year of college then transferring to a good school (hopefully I’ll get accepted by then, since I’ve clearly cleaned my act up but I feel like I don’t have enough time to clean up the mess I made the past two years).

Is that a good idea? I’m not sure what the pros and cons are of going to community college for the first year.

What has your family told you that they can pay for your education? Start with that. Then run the Net Price Calculators at the websites of the universities that you like and see if they will be affordable for you if you get in as a freshman applicant. Financial aid often is not as good for transfers as it is for freshmen, so you need to think carefully about going the transfer route.
