Transferring from Community College to CSUSM

So, I am in my 4th and final semester at Palomar College (a community college in San Marcos) and I submitted my upper-transfer application to CSUSM on November 1st, if I recall correctly.

It's been over two months and I still haven't received any word of whether or not I'm accepted yet. Is this normal?

It doesn't say anything on my todo list on the 'Student Center' website except a Federal Financial Aid request from 2012, which I already applied for two years ago on my first attempt to get into CSUSM, and which I know I'm not eligible for.

My application says its 'completed' but now where does it indicate if I'm accepted or not.

My grades from last semester were fairly good, raising my overall GPA from a 2.01 to a 2.35, however I put in my transfer application prior to the end of the semester. I'm not sure if there's a way for CSUSM to see my new GPA, or whether I should send in a 2nd transcript to show them my new grades, and that I've improved? Does CSUSM autocratically see my updated grades from now on since I've already sent in my transcripts?

I'm assuming since I'm a 'local transfer', I should be accepted, even with my low gpa.

Last year, to get accepted into CSUSM they said you needed a 3.0, with a 2.35… May I ask why you got a 2.35? If I were you I’d ask to do a renewal on some of those classes or take some over and apply next year or the year after. Honestly, I don’t think that a 2.35 will cut it even if you are a local transfer.

Who’s they? On the actual CSUSM it lists a 2.0 as the minimum required GPA for transfer.

A 2.0 won’t get you into a CSU. It’s getting harder and harder to get into CSUs and the bare minimum won’t cut it. And actually the 2.0 GPA is mainly for athletes.

Also the admissions rep when I called last year.

I also conditionally accepted into CSUSM straight out of high school but they cancelled my application because of a technical screwup and the transcripts not getting in on time. So this is my 2nd time applying, but instead as a transfer.

You can still get rejected even though you got accepted years ago. They don’t go by what you did in HS or anything like that.

In my opinion it’s a lot easier getting accepted as a freshmen than it is a transfer student.

The thing, I redid a bad grade from last semester, which should raise my gpa to say…2.45. If I get a 3.5 GPA this semester that will raise my cumulative GPA to at least 2.6, 2.7…It’s mathematically impossible to get a 3.0, but if I theoretically got a 4.0 this semester, that would raise my cumulative GPA to a 2.91.

So, will the admissions only consider the grades from my last 2 semesters, or will they wait to see the results of my last last 2 semesters before making a decision?

I was a bit put off when I first realized that they wanted my transcripts before I had even finished my 3rd semester, and that only my 1st year of college which should up on the transcripts I sent them…

They only consider what you put in the application.

Don’t listen to smurray09 csusm is a school much like csu stanislaus… an undesirable. Its hardly anyones
“first choice”. You should have no problem getting into CSUSM being in the local service area, as long as you
complete all the major courses and have above 2.0 your fine. On the other hand it would be a blessing to get denied, and
transfer to a real university rather than a palomar extension school, but thats just my opinion. Good luck!

I got my conditional acceptance letter from CSUSM today!
