Transferring from community college to Rice

I'm fairly confident that I can get in but its always nice to have input from other people. I'm in my second semester of my freshman year in college and I'm working on applications for Rice, UT Austin, and University of Houston.

College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: 3.55
HS Rank: I can't remember the precise number but I was top 25 percent.
SAT: 1550

I was involved extracurriculars in highschool, holding officer positions in 3 clubs/organizations.

you should be ACCEPTED

Thanks I’m hoping so! Anyone else?

Is your SAT for only M + CR or all sections?

Its all sections

I’m not big on Chances, particularly for transfers as there are even more factors involved. But I think Rice is going to be tough as a soph transfer based on:

Rice fr and transfer admission rates are about equal, 19% & 20%, respectively.

Rice fr 50% SAT range is 1980-2290.

All of your HS stats, gpa, rank & test scores, are very low for Rice.

That leaves 1.5 semesters at a CC with higher grades when decisions are made.

Adding the Rice Transfer FAQ link, particularly #1, 3 & 5:

[Future Owls](<a href=“Office of Admission | Rice University”>Office of Admission | Rice University)

I was afraid of that. Thanks though, looks like I’m just gonna have to keep up my GPA and try my best to make the essays strong.

And probably retake the SAT sometime in the future if it doesn’t work out

From a former CC transfer: you’re doing great, keep it up and keep your eye on the longer term goal. It’s really difficult to jump up in selectivity as a soph transfer, if you keep up your gpa you are going to have many more options as a jr transfer.

Best of luck!
