Hi guys, I go to community college in California. I really want to go to UCLA school of nursing. I know it is very competitive. How can I prepare? Is the GPA the most important thing? I have a 4.0 right now but I might get B in Eng 102 class. I’m volunteering at USC hospital. I went to Africa for medical volunteer camp which I did not do any medical surgery lol. I joined school club such as Global Medical Training, Pre-Med club. I do not know what kinds of work I should do. If any of you got accepted to UCLA School of Nursing, Please give me lots of advice!! Thank you!<3
Yes, it is competitive. Try to maintain that 4.0 just so you can beat out other applicants. GPA is the most important, ECs and essays are below that.
I just checked and last year the average gpa for nursing was 3.78-3.86 so you should be fine. Just try to get an A in everything else, particularly in your science classes/prereqs. Nursing is incredibly competitive everywhere, so I’m sure it’s gonna be crazy at UCLA.
For UCLA, the PIQs are very important. Put a lot of work into those.
prepare by reading thru https://www.nursing.ucla.edu/admissions/degree-programs/bachelor-science/admission-requirements and make sure you satisfy all requirements. Also look at the “evaluation criteria” link on https://www.nursing.ucla.edu/admissions/degree-programs/bachelor-science/apply-now and download the supplemental questionaire. If you understand what they are looking for then you have time before you apply to make sure you are doing the things they are looking for.
According to http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof17.htm they had 164 xfer applicants last year and took 12 so odds aren’t great. Do everything you can to exel at the criteria they list as per the links above. The way programs with such small admit rates typically work is they have a first pass where they eliminate everyone who hasn’t met every listed requirement, so meeting them can’t be emphasized enough.
