Transferring from csu to private

Hey so recently I talked to my counselor about college. He told me he transferred from city college of SF to sfsu then to university of the pacific. I asked him how did he transfer from a state school to another college and if it was hard? He said nope it wasn’t. He also said that it was easy to transfer to a private school. Just difficult to transfer to a UC.
So is it true that transferig from a csu to a private university easy? I’m enrolling in SJSU next year and thinking of taking that route of transferring to a private. Like maybe chapman university, USC or other privates in SOCAL. I really wanted to go to socal, I got in cal poly Pomona but didn’t decide to go because I wasn’t sure of my major and sjsu just had more majors to choose from, right now I’m kind of regretting giving my one chance on going to so cal, and mostly because it was more prestigious. Do you guys think I made the wrong decision? :((
Any help is appreciated please !! Thanks !

It doesn’t sound like a wrong decision. You thought about it and decided that SJSU was better for you. CPP did not offer you enough in the way of programs or something else to make the move, so be confident that SJSU is the better option for you right now. You are planning for your future and thinking about a transfer possibility that will get you an experience you want or you might also like SJSU and decide to stay there. Just keep in mind as you prepare to transfer to a private that the cost is significantly more and depending on your situation it may be an expensive consideration. For now, I recommend just trying to do well at SJSU so that you find a good major and put yourself in a position to have the options your want.

It seems that CPP has a lot of majors. Was it something else there that gave you cold feet? Also, you have the option of going to a CC in your favorite place in SoCal and then transferring into a UC. That is, if you can per SJSU. What is your dream location and dream school?

it doesn’t matter whether your decision was “right” or “wrong”. You are where you are… make the most of the opportunities you’ve got. SJSU is a good school and its location makes for loads of internship possibilities. USC is the only high profile SoCal private I know of that takes many transfer aps. There is no harm in submitting an ap as your Jr year approaches. In the mean time, make the most of what SJSU has to offer.
