Transferring from CSU to SMC then to a UC??

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions.

So now that I'm on the 2nd step (going into SMC and getting classes) I have tons of questions as to what happens next.

How do people kids priority enrollment dates? I feel like mine is SO late, and I've been eligible for almost Financial Aid out there, Pell Grant, Loans, Cal Grant B, etc.

I had a thread up a long time ago and someone said if I was able to recieve all these benefits, I'd also have priority enrollment.

How do I know if my classes from CSU transfer over to SMC? Would it be best to get an unofficial transcript to the counselors office?

Adding classes seems so confusing. It shows classes available by major, not by the actual IGETC sections, so I'm having a hard time right now trying to add classes and figuring out what I need.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

For the CSU to SMC transition, definitely talk to a counselor there.

I’m going to suggest that you just go to a CCC instead. CC’s are much better set up to transfer your credits to a UC, they have priority acceptance to UCs, and they’re much cheaper. I know of at least a couple posters on this board who went CSU → CCC → UC. Why aren’t you considering this option?

@alwaysleah SMC is a CC

CSU -> SMC (aka community college) -> UC

lol

How do people kids priority enrollment dates? I feel like mine is SO late, and I’ve been eligible for almost Financial Aid out there, Pell Grant, Loans, Cal Grant B, etc.

At my school you can get priority enrollment if you’re part of a sports team, student government, certain clubs, or if you have some sort of disability. So you might want to look and see if that’s the case at SMC.

How do I know if my classes from CSU transfer over to SMC? Would it be best to get an unofficial transcript to the counselors office?

Talk to a counselor at SMC, they probably won’t be that helpful without getting an official transcript from your CSU. My counselors wanted all your transcripts from all your previous schools asap, I’d recommend doing that ASAP if you haven’t already. You might be able to get help just bringing an unofficial transcript, but don’t be surprised if they won’t help you until you get all your official transcripts sent in.

Adding classes seems so confusing. It shows classes available by major, not by the actual IGETC sections, so I’m having a hard time right now trying to add classes and figuring out what I need.

Go see if SMC will give you an IGETC handout that shows what classes at SMC fulfill each section of the IGETC, you might also check their website and see if it’s up there.
