Page 19 is very clear. You would be considered a 4-4 transfer. In general you will not be eligible to play at the new 4 year school until you spend an academic year in residence and you are qualified. However, it is up to the school you are transferring into to determine your eligibility and any possible exceptions. Pay particular attention to the the D3 Exceptions on page 20. Your next step would be to contact the coaches at the certifying (new) school.

As for making the team, I have no idea whatsoever. That will depend on what you bring to the table, and the talent they have. I would certainly want to know what their needs are during the transfer discussion, and I’d probably research it ahead of time. Best of luck.

I tried to obtain a permission-to-contact from my present school and they told me that when i enroll in the school that i am transferring to, thats when i can contact the athletic department and thats when they can do paperwork…and also can you join the team mid season…tennis can sometimes go over to march or do i have to wait for a new season to begin…i plan to enroll for spring 2012…

I don’t know how this works, but what you were told doesn’t sound right. Wouldn’t an athlete need to find out where he’d stand athletically at a new school (whether he’d be wanted on the team or not) before making a transfer decision and enrolling there?

thats what i thought…thats why the permission to contact seems so necessary…i think im going inquire again my current schools AD next week…and im also gonna call ncaa eligibility center tomorrow to ask
