Transferring from Georgetown to Stanford

Similar to another post (regarding MIT)......and yes, I like Georgetown and am going there next year. Go Hoyas!

anYWHO, how hard would it be to transfer from Georgetown to Stanford. At Gtown, I"ll be a Human Sci major/arabic minor....Though arabic is amazing there, I feel that the sciences are not top notch, as are in HYPS. Thus, if I keep up relatively high grades as a freshman at Gtown and take a few EC's, would Stanford immediately disregard my application thinking "Pshh...Georgetown, they're so much lower than us" or does going to Gtown benefit me in any way more than an average high school applicant with decent stats (2200sats, 700+satii's, top2%rank)...

This is my first time posting in the stanford forum, so be nice, but honest :D.

P.S. I did not apply to Stanford in high school.

ANyone? This forum seems so lifeless.

You'll get more response in the Transfers forum.

Stanford has a 5% transfer rate - primarily composed of students that come from top tier schools (Georgetown included) and who were on the fence or got in as freshmen. That said, admissions is very tough for anyone.

Sorry you didn't get more responses; I think most of us don't know anything about transfer chances. What I did find out tonight is that the yield for incoming freshmen was unusually high this year (i.e. more people are deciding to come out of those who were accepted), so the number of transfers accepted will decrease. I don't know if this will happen again, of course... so be aware of the low transfer rate but have hope if it's what you want!

celestial, is that true? the general concensus that transfer admissions would not be influenced by freshmen acceptances. I know that 1,400 apps were accepted and they had announced roughly 60-70 spots.

Hmm. I heard this from a University staff member who is not on the admissions committee. This person told me that while there are usually 60-70 spots offered, this year there may only be 20-30. At any rate, this is not official information. We'll see on May 15 what the acceptance rate is.

celestial, so may 15 is when we will know the actual yield rate for stanford class of 2011??

It turns out my source was pretty correct. http://daily/article/2007/5/11/1745SignWithSu
