I am currently a first semester freshman at James Madison University. When applying to colleges in high school my top choice was Virginia Tech but I got wait listed and never accepted so I decided to attend James Madison. JMU is a lovely place but my heart is still set on Virginia Tech and I've decided that transferring would be completely worth it. However, I need some advice...

As of right now I am undeclared. The semester ends in about a month so I was planning on declaring my major in Hospitality Management. At Tech...Hospitality & Tourism Management is a department in their school of business, which means I would have to get accepted into their business school to major in HTM. A couple of days I called the Tech admissions office asking about my credits transferring and the lady I spoke to told me that if I havent taken precal and calculus (which i havent yet) I would probably not be accepted to their business school because its what really makes an application competitive. My heart literally broke when she said this. I asked if I could take precalc my second semester here at JMU and she said it would still be up in the air. I don't even know if HTM is the right major for me but either way I was thinking of majoring in some type of business.

I'm going to call back tomorrow to ask more specific questions such as summer courses to catch up but I was wondering if anyone was thinking of transferring to Tech or has any suggestions? I want to attend Virginia Tech more than anything and I just dont know what I should do. Should I pick a major that doesn't require precalc or calculus? I don't want to give up on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.
