transferring from LSU as a petroleum engineer

Hello everybody, I am currently in my second semester at LSU and am studying to become a petroleum engineer. I originally came into LSU thinking that I wanted to be a chemical engineer, but have switched to Petroleum (partly because the money partly because I wasn't fond of college chemistry courses). I really dislike it here at LSU, and have decided to transfer out. It is too late to apply to UT or Texas A&M, but I want to graduate from either of those schools. My first semester I earned a 3.24 the first semester, and if everything goes according to plan this semester Ill end up with a 3.4. I have earned 30 hours at LSU, and carried 11 hours coming in. I am looking for help on what my options are. Should I transfer to UTSA and apply to UT or A&M for the spring semester? is my gpa even close enough to get accepted into either UT or A&M? I think it is stupid to leave LSU where i know i can earn a degree in petroleum engineering, but i really hate it here and want to be closer to home (Houston). I dont know what I should do and am in desperate need of some help.

Hey,
I have been there done that and as much as i would want you to graduate from A and M or one of those bigger schools, i can guarantee you that you will not have a 3.4 Gpa from a and m when you transfer. I transferred to A and M with a 4.0 from a community college in Maryland and i ended up being suspended with a 1.92. If you are not ready to put in the work forget it, they will make sure you have no life and pile a **** tonne of homework for your weekends. I transferred into ULL and i’m finally doing well without studying that much. If i were you i would suck it up and go to Lsu and graduate with a higher GPa, which will likely get you a job rather than go to UT or A&M and end up being washed out or graduating with a 2.7. I don’t see how different Baton Rouge is from college station though, Its the same drinking, partying, fraternity, sorority, my parents are rich kinda students you will meet in college station. Cstat is nothing like Houston, if that is your perception. Suck it up buddy and hang in there, its just four years of college. Let me kow if you have anymore questions

My son is trying to decide between LSU and TAMU PETE. We met with Dean at TAMU and, based on what we were told, you should not have any problem transferring to TAMU PETE with a 3.3 gpa. I’m curious as to why you hate LSU. The PETE dept seems very impressive and offers advantages over TAMU such as working oil rigs near campus, blowout studies and geology camp. The advantage of TAMU is it is rated #1 and closer to Houston (our home as well). Do you have any info (student experiences) on internships and job offers for graduating seniors at LSU?
