I applied and was admitted to MCS for applied math. But now I am unsure about what I want to do. Is it at all possible to transfer to the Computer Science school or Electrical and Computer Engineering at CIT?

Actually, I have gotten the impression from others that CMU is more rigid in these matters, and it is difficult to transfer within CMU and especially difficult to transfer to the computer science and engineering. You are supposed to apply to these schools.

From reliable sources, I have heard it is fairly easy to transfer within schools. CIT-ECE and SCS seem to be alot harder to transfer into, but apparently if you do well in a few particular classes and there are openings, you would probably be able to transfer (at least for SCS, don’t know about ECE). There is specific information about this in some of the other posts. I’m sure it’s tough to go into drama from applied math, but it doesn’t sound like you’re headed that way.

Every year some spaces open up SCS as students drop out, if you do well in the foundation course (15-211) it is not that hard to transfer internally. The trick is doing well in those courses. I suspect the situtation is similar at CIT. They explain it in the course catalog. Just scroll down and open the pdf.
