I stressed in my essays that Michigan has always been my first choice and that the program here doesn't suit my interests. I had them edited by a few of my michigan friends and I think they're pretty strong.

Thanks!

It’s possible but unlikely simply because you didn’t get in as a freshman and sometimes the admissions people almost seem to just dismiss apps from sophomore transfers that were not accepted and automatically accept sophomore transfers that had been admitted as freshmen. I’m surprised you weren’t accepted as a freshman and you were probably very close so there is a shot.

Thank you! Do you think my chances would improve significantly if I applied for the fall 2013 semester after taking classes over the summer? I could get to roughly 50 credits if I took the summer term

For all intents and purposes, Spring/Summer 2013 and Fall 2013 are the same thing, I believe they have the same deadline. As long as you keep on doing well, you should be a near lock for Winter 2014. I think you’re a better student than I was when I was accepted.

Thank you for your help! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for this time around but if not I’ll rack up my credits and try again

My son had virtually the same stats as you out of High School (UW GPA of about 3.6, ACT of 31, instate, legacy). Went to Grand Valley (he could not bring himself to even apply to State, too big of a Michigan fan) and had a 3.85 in his first semester there and was accepted for the Spring term at Michigan. He applied in August for Winter but Michigan wanted some grades so he moved his application to Spring. I think you have a good chance as you were probably very close out of high school.

One thing that helped was that his transfer application was more specific about the program he wanted to study and why it was a fit. It was also very clear from the start that Michigan was his choice and everything else was simply a holding pattern.

He found our around now last year that he was in for Spring term. We speculated that Spring might have less competition but have nothing factual to back that up.

He transferred with about 30 credits from GV and another 10+ AP credits.
