i'm a freshman at nyu and just completed my first semester.
i love it here and enjoy living in the city very much, but the oncoming recession and measly financial aid offered is looking less and less appetizing to me every day.

i've been thinking of transferring to lighten the loans for when i graduate, but i don't want to go to a public school. i've been thinking of going to another private school or even ivy that provides good financial aid for its students.

i have a 3.85 gpa and am in 2 clubs (a satire magazine & graphic design club).
sats: 680 lit 630 math 700 writing. satIIs: fr 520 lit 700. aps: enviro 3 lit 4.
high school record is okay, nothing amazing. hs gpa: 3.8 uw (3.95 w). #34 out of 254 (took a lot of art classes...)
i'm also doing an internship right now, associate producer of a documentary.

what are some suggestions for schools around the ny/nj possibly pa/ct tristate area that i could get into?

some that i've been thinking about: sarah lawrence, bard, vassar, columbia, cornell etc.

..........dont know ur major, but villanova, bucknell, lehigh, pitt, you'll get into. possibly penn, but its a reach for everyone

oh yeah, major is possibly art history or writing.

It may be difficult to get financial aid as a transfer student. Your stats are probably not strong enough to transfer to an Ivy. If I read them correctly, you have a 3.85 GPA and a 1310/1600 SAT. Best bet might be Grinnell in Iowa or, possibly, Oberlin in Ohio. Bard, Vassar & Sarah Lawrence are also great choices for you.

What about SUNY New Paltz honors program. Look on the SUNY General forum and see a post on this program. It sounds very strong and NP would work for your art history and writing ambitions. If you decide to pursue graphic design it is also very strong there. I now you mentioned that you are not interested in a state school, but if you are concerned with finances, that would be a good option.

I went to NYU myself, and I know that NP, while it is not in a city has that funky artsy village vibe and lots of diversity. It is something to consider.
