OMG im so happy some people think like me! i really live on long island (suburbs) and really dislike the nyu crowd and community. It feels like people there are rushing to become adults, and all everyone does is smoking weed. im not into the people there either. Basically im not a big fan of going to school in nyc. Im transferring out of a school in nyc too for many of the same reasons. Looking forward to next fall at a school with a real campus feeling and environment!

Crazy. This girl I intern with wants to transfer from NYU to Columbia for the exact reasons you listed. She said it was too indie-artsy and that people were more into fashion, being artsy, etc. than actually learning anything.

I'm glad I didn't end up going there. I think I would have gone nuts.

haha wow...i want to transfer out of NYU for similar reasons too. i don't dislike it, but it's the not the best fit either.

@dreamer121- i feel the same way- that people are just rushing to become adults. i've visited some of my friends at other schools, and i liked being on an actual campus and around people who actually care about school and doing well.

and about the protest. it was SO annoying. my dorm's on the park and i could hear them chanting and screaming all three days and i had midterms to study for. i finally gave up to go watch thurs night when they had to leave or get arrested. check nyulocal.com for the whole story....

hahah I was in Kimmel and somehow was clueless even though the protest was like 2 floors below...it's funny you could hear it in hayden/goddard! but yeah, the whole thing is nuts. they broke into the balcony and assaulted a female security officer.

haha i know! i heard them tuesday night and i had noo idea what was going on either. i thought there was something going on in the park and then my roommate told me about tbnyu barricading kimmel and i was like what!? did you hear about their march last night? apparently there was a whole group of people wearing masks and robes and carrying torches with that resist banner walking down university place...my friend saw them and said it was beyond creepy.

love how all this happened just in time for admissions haha must make a great impression on all the prospective freshman...

wow that sounds creepy...yeah I don't dorm so I don't know what went on after thursday, but I saw it on TV...yeah I think TBNYU is going overboard, and weren't many of them suspended? do they actually think that by wearing masks and being creepy they're going to get scholarships for kids in gaza and all their other demands?

i support budget disclosure, would love lowered tuition but am smart enough to realize that if you don't like it, you have the option of transferring. I can't afford a mercedes so I didn't get one. private college is a luxury good like any other.

If you're in NYC and can't take advantage of all of the opportunities, you don't deserve to be here. I just transferred and although I dont LOVE the city (im from LA which is WAY better), I see that there are no limits for me here. Opportunities are everywhere--internships, activities....ahh so much

overload

^ She doesn't need to be told that she doesn't "deserve" to be here...she wants to transfer and it seems like she's made up her mind.

NYC is great and all, but obviously not the place for everyone....same with NYU. I hear our freshman external transfer rate is like 10% or something...crazy.
