I’m about to talk to my advisor about this, but essentially; I started NYU in 2012, and did pretty well my first year.
My second year wasn’t as successful and I basically bombed every class I took except for a few during the spring semester. Currently my GPA is a 2.1. I can’t go back to due to financial burdens, and I already took a year off to make money, but I didn’t make nearly enough. Now, I’m trying to transfer to a different school, but I don’t think I can with such a low GPA.
Does anyone what I should do about this? Officially, I think I am still a student (although, not enrolled I’m just registered), but I can’t register for classes due to owing the school money. Obviously, I need to finish college, but this is a big problem. My high school GPA was really good (3.7) and I had 3 AP classes and what not, but I already have 64 credits that I don’t want to lose.
You can transfer to a different school, but accept that it will be less competitive than NYU. Depending upon the school, a lot of your credits may transfer – it depends upon what your major was and will be, and what your grade in the class was, etc. Each school is different. You won’t lose 64 credits.
You need to ask yourself why you bombed every class. Was it just too difficult? Were you partying? Were you depressed? Were you working so many hours trying to pay for NYU that you couldn’t stay awake in class? If the underlying problems aren’t fixed, you’ll have the same issues at another school, and worse debt.
If you need or want to raise your GPA, keep working and take some community college classes. Any college you apply to will understand financial issues as long as you’re working to improve your situation.
Yeah, I’m currently looking into that.
I had a scholarship freshman year that paid for everything (full ride), but when I took classes over the summer I had a hard time keeping up due to working too much. I tried not working, but the bills kept piling up so I had to keep making money, but this meant that I had less time to study. Couple that with the fact that my roommate wasn’t the nicest, just made that entire year one stressful event.
Wherever you go you’ll need to clear that up first. No school will enroll you while you owe money to another. NYU won’t send a transcript until they get their $.
I don’t think starting at a CC is reasonable since you already have 64 CUs (making you a Junior). What are your regional public Us? You should talk to the transfer GC there.
