I am currently a sophmore/junior at SMU and i hate it completely. I’m in the cox school of business on the premed and hate it so so much and i would like to transfer to University of Houston or UT Austin but i dont know if they will accept my dual credit hours AND smu hours. i did an early college program so i don’t want to stay in college all four years if i can help it. but i haven’t seen much forums of smu students transferring elsewhere. I don’t know what to do. I would like to keep my pre-med but I’m not even sure if its worth transferring at this point since im already a sophmore.
Im planning to transfer to SMU and hope to get accept then I saw this. Can you tell me what you hate about the school. Thank
SMU is a very good school as long as you pay huge price ( possibly don’t worth for premed unless you are super rich and want to stay in Dallas). No grade deflation at SMU. Small classes. Not a competitive throat cutting environment or dominated by competitive students. Cox is one of the best business school in nation. If you don’t go to medical school then your Cox connections will help you a lot to find a good job in Texas right away. Look at that is problem somewhere else. I don’t think SMU was problem. Problem might be choice of premed or lack of motivation etc. sorry for too much judgment but something doesn’t make sense. Texas has a lot of medical school. Concentrate on your MCAT and good GPA.
OP, you should pick up phone and call University of Houston ASAP and shoot an email as well. It may workout.
SMU is an average school and not worth the cost unless you are on heavy financial aid or near full tuition scholarship or may be if you are rich but can’t get into better schools. Barbra Bush’s girls were legacies but went to Yale and UT.
It’s not a great idea to do business major in undergrad, specially for someone on pre-Med track. Most top business schools like Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, MIT, Yale etc doesn’t even offer an undergrad degree. Even if you end up in business, you’ll need to get an MBA.
Accidental comment
I personally don’t like SMU because of the amount of bureaucracy there is to get anything done. The financial aid office is an entire maze to get through, the housing office is constantly dodging students (i work there), and the social scene is meh. You will be charged for the most asinine things. like right now, I am being charged for a room im not even living in after I told them I won’t be living there and went through the proper process. Most students have signs of early alcohol addiction, but if you enjoy partying, you’ll find people right away. There are better schools in the big state of Texas.
