Transferring from Southern California to New York. Options?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently going to a community college here in SoCal. I've got about a year left before I'm ready to transfer to a 4 year university. I haven't completely decided on a major as of yet, but am deciding between communications or marketing (where I decide to transfer to may play a role in my choice). I am currently taking honors courses and hope to have around a 4.0gpa upon transferring. Not sure if it matters, but after high school I took a few years off and decided to go straight into the work force. I've got about 4 years worth of management experience in a large office. Anyways, I'd like to transfer to an out of state university. Preferably New York. What options do I have school wise when transferring? I've been entertaining the idea of NYU, but I really have no idea how difficult it would be to get in, or if it is even feasible at all. Considering the fields related to communications and/or marketing can be pretty cutthroat, I'd like to better my chances as much as possible by going to the best school I can (in the NY area). What other institutions should I be looking at?

Thanks

Can you afford NYU? NYU is known for having arguably the worst financial aid.

Yes, financially I should be alright by the time I transfer.

$65K/year x 2 years?

Syracuse is well known for communications.

I’ve got a good chunk of college funds that I’ve inherited. The remaining balance would be taken out through loans.

Usc… while not out-of-state, has a great communications program and is pretty generous with financial aid.

I’d give serious thought to a CUNY (City University of New York). Save the money you could have spent on tuition and instead invest it in living costs for some lower paid, or even unpaid internships as you try to establish yourself.

You can only borrow $7500/year without a cosigner. If you mean your parents will take out loans for the rest then fine.

I would like to go out of state, but there are a bunch of factors that could get in the way of that. USC does seem like a good choice, although I’ve been told by counselors at my CC that Cal State Fullerton has the best communications department in the state? I haven’t looked into the validity of that yet. I’d imagine USC would look a lot better coming out of though.
