Transferring from UC San Diego

Hi all,

I am planning on transferring to a different school. I want to try again for my dream schools UCLA/USC. I applied as an undergrad to UCLA and was rejected and appealed my rejection but was rejected again. I want to give it one last chance. I am a current structural engineering major at UCSD and have a 3.5 GPA. Freshman year was a rough bumpy ride for me…I ended up going through numerous heart problems which required open heart surgery. The doctors informed me that I should drop out but I didn’t, and was determined to just continue regardless of my situation. Prior to all of this I was involved in 2 engineering clubs but had to quit so I didn’t have any extracurricular activities. I’ll be having a sister apply this year to UCLA straight out of hs as well (not sure if that’ll have any impact to anything). What would you guys recommend my steps to this approach be? Do I have a shot?

I don’t have the answer to your question, but I noticed when I visited UCLA campus that it was very taxing to walk up the hill to the dorm area. Would that make it a bad fit for you because of your heart problems?

I appreciate your concern but I’m already one year into recovery, by the time I transfer I’m sure I’ll be back to 100% (hopefully) as of rn I can walk a good distance w/o any issues

I suggest you post in the UC transfer forum with your specific questions about UCLA transfer: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

Your sister applying will have not have any effect on your chances. Your chances will be dependent mainly on your UC GPA and if you complete all the pre-req and required transfer courses.

This link will give you the UC Transfer GPA admit ranges by major and campus to help you gauge your chances:

For USC, I would post your questions in their forum since their transfer requirements may differ from the UC’s.
