So I’ve been attending UCSB for a year and I plan to complete fall quarter here as well. However, things are bad financially and I was wondering if it would be better for me to transfer to a CC during spring and take as many classes as possible over Spring and Summer and then a CalState. It’s frustrating. Please help.
Technically you do not transfer to a CC, just apply and start taking classes. If you are at a Sophomore level now at UCSB, do you plan to apply as a Fall 2020 CSU transfer or do you plan to apply the following year 2021?
You would need to have the Golden 4 CSU GE requirements completed by Spring 2019 to be eligible for Fall CSU admission.
It finances are an issue, then it makes sense to finish your pre-req courses at a CC and transfer.
Best of luck.
To be eligible to transfer as a junior to CSU you need to have 60 units by the time you enter. Since UCSB is on a quarter system and most CC are on a semester system it may be a bit tricky to get enough units. In addition most CSU require you to complete the “golden 4” classes by spring prior to a fall transfer so be sure you meet that; see https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/student-services/casper/Pages/golden-four.aspx
It is technically possible to transfer as a lower division student but most CSU campuses do not accept them; see https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/transfer/Pages/lower-division-transfer.aspx
You wrote a year ago about considering a xfer in http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/community-colleges/2101592-dropout-and-go-to-a-jc.html and it would have been better to have done this full year at a CC, but I guess that’s water under the bridge at this point
Yeah I thought it’d get better if I continued with ucsb but I’ve begun doubting it again. So I plan to transfer to a CSU in spring 2021. I assume I can take CC classes in spring 2020, and the following summer and fall and hopefully meet all requirements. Plus, I’ll be living at home so it’d be more do-able. Thanks for your help!
I assume you meant Spring 2020 not 2019. And I plan to transfer during Spring 2021 so I’ll have an year to get my requirements completed. Plus, my major doesn’t require a ton of classes so I think I could still graduate within 4 years and if not, maybe 4.5 yrs max. Thank you for your help though
@panicked101 I missed the part where you want to transfer in Spring and not Fall. One thing you should check into at the CSU campuses you are considering is whether they have a unit cap on how many college units you can earn for transfers. Many UC campuses do not accept high-unit junior or senior transfers. I haven’t been able to find anything online for CSU regarding this, but it would be a good idea to check into this before you accumulate all the units.
