Transferring from UCD to CC to UCLA/Cal for Communication/Media Studies

So, i have a pretty unique situation as a transfer student. I attended UC Davis as a Communication major for my first year of college and accumulated a 3.8 GPA (major GPA: 4.0), and made it onto the Letters and Science Deans List for all 3 quarters. I had to leave Davis because I felt the school didn't really cater to the Communications department, didn't offer sufficient internships for Comm, and lastly my family was not able to afford sophomore year tuition. So now, I'm registered at my local CC as an Honors student in the TAP program.

I don't have too many EC's besides attending dance classes and working a few jobs throughout the year.
I'm currently a Public Relations intern at a well-known PR company in Downtown Los Angeles, and I plan on getting another PR/Comm. related internship throughout sophomore year.

I'm aware that the Comm. majors at UCLA and Cal are INCREDIBLY impacted and my overall GPA isn't as high as the accepted avg (3.92). Do I still have a chance? I'm taking a summer course at my CC right now and if I receive an A, my GPA goes up to 3.84

Also, does UCLA/Cal care more about my major GPA or Overall GPA?
I took a Computer Science class and got a B as well as an Environmental Toxicology class and got a B, which brought my GPA down from a 4.0. Since UCD is strong in those two subjects I figured I might as well take advantage of the opportunity to expand my knowledge of different fields.

Lastly, will UCLA consider the fact that my GPA isn't as high as the GPA of other transfer students, because UC Davis classes tend to be more challenging than CC classes and I also had to adjust to living on my own, etc?

Thanks!

Also, I have 2/5 prereqs completed for UCLA and 2/4 for Cal. I plan on finishing them up Fall Semester.

I feel you will be ok. Are you getting IGETC certified?

Yes, I am getting IGETC certified.

Hard to say. Comm studies is majorly impacted at UCLA as you know. They really gauge your GPA. They have now also added a portfolio project because of the competition. I’m not going to say yes because it’s kind of 50-50. I would say nail that project.

I hear it is slightly easier to get into Cal’s dept and there is no project.

I thought the portfolio was only for current UCLA students who wanted to transfer into the major?

I believe everyone has to do it, but I could be wrong.
