Hi, I want to transfer from UCLA to CCC to UCI. It’s due to some personal issues, so I would like some questions to be answered. Please don’t try to persuade me to stay, it’s a problem that can’t easily be solved. I actually emailed a CCC about this, but they said I need to contact UCI, but I can’t find an email to contact them…
Here are my questions:
My GPA is below a 2.0 right now and I'm wondering if I go to a ccc, does the ccc use my current GPA and build off from there or do I start anew? Say I needed at least a 3.4 to go to UCI, would UCI consider both my ccc GPA and UCLA GPA combined or would or would UCI look at my GPA's separately. If the minimum requirement if a 3.4, would they look solely at the CCC GPA and then just look over the UCLA GPA or would they combine the two GPA, to see if I met the minimum? Sorry if that was confusing...
Since I'm going to UCLA right now, when I transfer to a ccc and apply to UCI, will I be seen as UC-UC transfer or CC-UC transfer during UCI's admission process?
3.How likely could I transfer to UCI’s school of engineering within a year? Especially with programs such as TAG? I know engineering would be a tough major to get into…
Am I able to retake classes at the CC for classes that I've received a C in at UCLA?
**Keep in mind, I know my GPA is low at UCLA but please do not think that I’m leaving because I think it’s too rigorous. I know wherever I go, there will always be competition and hard classes. This is mainly based on very personal issues, sorry if I had to repeat that again.
Thank you for the help!! I’m really not sure how to go about researching such information since there aren’t many UC-CC-UC transfers…
Your gpa is cumulative. If you have a 2.0 for a year, you will have to get enough A’s in the next year to get a higher gpa; even if you have a 4.0 for your year at a cc, your gpa will be affected by your courses at UCLA. You will have to do very well to even be considered for transfer to UCI, so despite your requests, staying at UCLA is probably the best thing to do, because it isn’t definite as to whether or not you’ll get into UCI. This is vague, and it depends on the amount of classes you’ve taken, so it might be easy for you to transfer if you haven’t taken many classes and will take many at the CC. It’s all relative.
CC-UC, but they will see your transcripts from UCLA, so your reason for switching ought to be elucidated thoroughly in your personal statement.
Very unlikely, unless you take a very large amount of classes and do well in them all. I think, if you successfully complete TAG (which would involve getting a cumulative 3.4 gpa, a very difficult thing to do considering your situation), you should be fine, but if you need to retake classes and so forth, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to transfer in just a year. It’s all really relative to your situation, as if you have too many units you may not be admitted, but I may not be the best person to talk with about this because I know little about the unit cap for transfers.
You cannot retake C’s, but I’m pretty sure you can retake classes that you’ve failed. Talk to a counselor at the CC you’re looking at, they can likely help.
It’s definitely a difficult thing to do, but not impossible, I would recommend trying to stay and work things out at UCLA, but if it is absolutely necessary to leave, then make sure you look into it thoroughly, talk to counselors at UCLA / your desired CC, know which major you wish to apply for and make sure you have completed all prerequisites, etc. I doubt you’ll be able to do it within a year, two years seems to be a better option, but I don’t know the complete specifics of your situation so I can’t definitively say.
Also keep in mind that if you leave UCLA in “bad standing”, you’re ineligible to transfer to another UC. I’m not sure if having a GPA below 2.0 counts as bad standing, but you definitely want to speak with a counselor at UCLA.
Hello! Thank you for your answer!! I’m willing to try to take a two year route as well. If I decide to take two years to transfer, how realistic would it be for me to transfer to UCI with a 3.4+? (Hopefully higher since there’s a lot of competition) And by the end of my second year, what are the odds of me reaching the unit cap?.. I have 36 units in high school AP Credit and by the end of this year probably around 35 units of UC credit? Thank you!!
Also, do you know how likely it would for me to to transfer to CSULB with in a year? I’m also interested in their engineering program, but haven’t researched too much about it.
You have to deal with the bad standing (below 2.0). That could be a big problem. Maybe you go to CCC and take one course at UCLA to raise the GPA, although not sure you can even do the cross-enrollment with bad standing. You should find out your options first. Can you get it to 2.0 by end of year? That’s your best option.
Hello! If I were to take a two year track, would you see it as more realistic? Or would it just be better, but still unlikely? Also, do you think I would reach or exceed the unit cap by the end of my second year in CCC?
If all you took were lower division, you’re fine no matter how many CCC classes you take. Otherwise you would just add any upper division courses you may have taken at UCLA to your lower division. You can take as many LD as you want. They’ll just transfer up to 70 units, so you would add any UD to that. I’m not sure what the limited at UCI-- about 89?
BTW, over 70 LD units, any other LD courses you get subject credit, just not unit credit.
Re GPA, if you’re one year in at 2.0 and then another year at 4.0 that only puts you at 3.0, all things being equal. If you make it a year and a half at 4.0 that’s about a 3.2.
I know you don’t want to bring up your problem at UCLA but maybe you should try and figure out a way.
