Hello,

I am a high school senior and I did not gain admission to UCLA. I will likely be attending either UCR or UCI. I intend to major in political science. My question is what are the standards (GPA, EC's, credits etc...) for transferring into UCLA as a poli-sci major? I want to get started on the right track right away and start working towards getting to LA from day one. Do you have any suggestions on how I should go about things in my first 2 years? Is there anybody here who has done this (any input on how you when about it would be helpful)? I understand it is rare as LA gets only around 600 applicants from other UC's, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

u'll need about a 3.5-3.6 proly... Do the lower devision reqs and general ed...

Try to get involved and do some ec just like HS.

good luck.

thank you very much. I wish you luck as well in you future endeavors =)

bro transferring from uc-to-uc is a lot harder from cc to uc. especially ucla..if i were you, i'd drop both ucr and uci and go to SMC.

go to mt sac and get tap certified.

there's a link for the profile of the students for UCLA in 05 (too bad they don't have this site at other websites..i like it)
but yeah man..CCC to UC...SO Much more worth it
the only downfall i guess is the "college atmosphere" but you do realize you'll be closer to ur family (if that's a good thing). and you'll be saving tons of bank. this is my 2nd quarter and i'm a poli sci major too. best of luck sir!

Yeah go to community college you will save money and it will be easier to transfer.

can i ask what ccc you're thinking about going to?

I agree! Transferring from a CCC to UCLA will save you money, and may allow you to have an agreement with the school.

I actually do not have the option to attend a CCC, as my parents will not allow me to. I understand it would likely be easier transferring from a CCC, but from what I have read it is not that much more difficult transferring from a UC. I was looking at some statistics and of those who apply from CCC's some 40% are admitted. As for students from other UC's the admit rate was about 31% and there are only about 500-600 transfers from other UC's. And recently I found this quote on UCLA's website, "Lastly, we give highest priority to students who are transferring from California community colleges or other University of California campuses." So that makes me a little bit more confident. It also states that their average UC to UCLA applicant has a GPA of about 3.34, now I know I can do better than that, and I feel I can do even better than their average of 3.54 admitted gpa. I feel if I work hard enough it won't matter where I go for my first 2 years, I just have to make it so they can't reject me. In any case I would like to thank all of you for how supportive you have been, everyone here has wished me good luck, and I really appreciate that. I also return the sentiment. I feel much more educated on the matter after being here for the last 2 days, and that is thanks to you guys. I hoe you don't mind me asking more questions in the future.

well, don't be too sure that you can make a 3.5+ at a U.C, you'll find that its much harder in college than in highschool

I would do the TAP program at a JC. The chances are higher than a UC-UC transfer.
