I got rejected the first time around for undergraduate but I very very much still seek to transfer to UC Berkeley. However, I am completely clueless as to how the process works. I graduated high school last month but I have 58 quarter units from AP Credit at UCSD. I have heard that there is some sort of limit to the amount of credits you can have to transfer to Cal. Also, for example, I got a 4 on AP Physics C which gives me credit at UCSD while Berkeley requires a 5 to get credit. How exactly do APs transferring to one UC and then to another UC work? Would it be recommended for me to transfer after one year or two? If I try to transfer after one year, what exactly would I even put on my application?

It is difficult, though not impossible, to transfer from another UC. Berkeley in particular, however, discourages it and gives you even lower priority than other schools. The best way to increase your chances is to go to a CCC. But of course, that means that you will be at a CC and not a UC.

Okay. I was wondering if someone could answer my question about AP Credit.

It looks like the credit limit is 80 transferable units, so if you’re over, you won’t be considered for admission, unless you’re applying to the College of Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Design, Natural Resources or Haas School of Business, where the site says your application may be evaluated more closely, but your chances are still slim. When you transfer, the AP credit will likely be recalculated and reassigned (though I could be wrong). It looks like Berkeley only accepts junior transfers, if I’m reading their site correctly.

You can choose to use AP classes for unit credit but you don’t have to. If Berkeleys policy is that you must get a 5, then you must get a 5… If you are at a 4 year, you must have between 60 and 80 (or 90…i forget)semester units to apply and you will get unit credit for 70 of them, though all will still be on your UC transcript.

If you drop out and go to a community college you can have as many units as you want (over 60) but you will only get unit credit for 70.
