Hi, I am currently a first year student here at UCSD but I have the credit standings of a sophomore. I am from LA and I am CERTAIN that I want to transfer to UCLA as soon as possible. Please Please help me. I am a bioengineering major now but I know it is impacted at UCLA and it might be harder to get into UCLA with that major. Since I am a first year student, I do not have a UC GPA yet so I'm not sure how this works. I am willing to do practically anything to transfer as quickly as possible. THANK YOU in advance :)

The transfer rules are clearly spelled out on UCLA’s website. You can apply as long as you will have 90 quarter credits, including AP’s, by June.

What you will need to do in your essay is explain, ‘Why UCLA?’. Academic reasons are usually best, but that would be a hard sell since SD is known to be extremely strong in bio-eng. So, I guess you could go with social issues (whatever they might be).

It is mostly family issues because I am the first born and I am needed at home because I also live with my grandparents. Would it be more beneficial and give me an edge if I write about this? Or should I just stick to academics but change my major?

Wow I’m in a similar position although I’m planning to apply for transfer next year. Being at UCI is way too much more than my family can afford right now and if I can commute to school and be of help at home, It’d be the perfect situation. So maybe you can tell them why it would be easier on your family if you could transfer to LA.
