Transferring from UCSD

Hi all,

I am planning on transferring to a different school. I want to try again for my dream schools UCLA/USC. I applied as an undergrad to UCLA and was rejected and appealed my rejection but was rejected again. I want to give it one last chance. I am a current structural engineering major at UCSD and have a 3.5 GPA. Freshman year was a rough bumpy ride for me…I ended up going through numerous heart problems which required open heart surgery. The doctors informed me that I should drop out but I didn’t, and was determined to just continue regardless of my situation. Prior to all of this I was involved in 2 engineering clubs but had to quit so I didn’t have any extracurricular activities. I’ll be having a sister apply this year to UCLA straight out of hs as well (not sure if that’ll have any impact to anything). What would you guys recommend my steps to this approach be? Do I have a shot?

I know you don’t want to hear this but my recommendation is to stay at UCSD.

Thank you for your input although I would just like to ask why do you say this?

Glad you’re doing well after the surgery. <3 That is most important!

Can I ask what you don’t like about UCSD?

Thank you so much! Honestly at UCSD it’s just not the environment I wanted. I’m into sports a lot so I’ve alwas wanted to support a college football team plus I feel as if this school is socially not for me. I hate to say this but it is pretty dead tbh. Besides social life the structural engineering dept is a bit too broad and does not offer surveying (you only take 4 classes based on civil eng). I’ve spent a weekend at UCLA with my friend and loved it, people just seem to be more open.
