Transferring from UNC to UF

Hey y’all!

I made a post about possibly transferring a while ago and now that I decided that it’s something I want to do, I need advice on the rest of the process! I’m from FL, but go to UNC and want to transfer to UF. I want to major in Info Systems under their business school, but I keep reading about how community college kids are given preference and transferring from a 4 year to a 4 year is extremely difficult. Is this true? I’m not going to have a 4.0 gpa like all of the other CC applicants, but do you think they will consider the fact that UNC is a harder school?

Does anybody know heavily they consider high school grades/the application I submitted as a senior when making a decision? I got in my senior year, do you think that will help me in anyway?

I don’t know, I guess I’m just really scared I won’t get in and be stuck here. My reasons for transferring are more for my mental health and to be closer to my twin sister (also goes to UF) than anything. Do you think I should mention this in one of my statement of intents?

In the mean time, what can I do to ensure admittance to my major because I really don’t want to end up majoring in their general studies program.

Thanks!

I am going through something very similar to you right now. I decided to transfer back to my state school after my first semester because my anxiety and depression is so much worse now that I’m far from home. I got into the school my senior year and I just filled out the application to transfer yesterday. I do think that they will consider our high school grades more because we won’t have even a semester grade from college to show at the time you apply. My application also didn’t ask about why I was transferring so maybe see if that is a question on the transfer application.

Hi! I think you should definitely mention how you have your twin at UF. I’m trying to transfer in as well. You have to look up your major and its pre-reqs on the UF transfer site and make sure you have those as well as 60 credits. I’ve called a few times and apparently, once you’ve transferred in, you can’t actually change your major (or it’s very rare) and you have to stick with it until grad. Best of luck!

@hammygirl1999 Are you transferring in as a junior with 60 credits? If so, they don’t need high school transcripts unless you need to show them that you fulfill the language requirements. Good luck!
