Hello. This is my first post. I'm a undergraduate sophomore student with computer science major from UCSD and planning to transfer to community college (most likely at Mt.SAC). My reason for transferring from UCSD to CC because of my academic (well, also my parents). I have 2.6 gpa (which is fairly ok), but my parents feel that i do not belong at UCSD because I have been getting mostly C grades and failed the basic writing exam (which i literally studied my ass off for) many times. Because of those reasons, I had to withdraw from ucsd since they won't pay my tuition. So, I originally planned to transfer to Cal Poly but I found out that I did not meet their requirements on the "four golden courses" (i think that is the name...), which include freshmen composition, college math, oral communication, and critical thinking. I satisfied their college math requirement since i finished my math series at UCSD. However, I was not able to satisfy other requirements since I couldn't pass the basic writing exam. Also, throughout my freshmen year, I have been mostly taking my pre-requisite classes for my major because i was following the four-year plan computer science academic courses that computer science department had set-up for the undergraduates who are majoring in computer science or engineer. The only option i had at this moment is try to get and finish G.E.s at mt. sac. However, I highly doubt that I can get at least one class for the semester. I wanted know from you guys if transferring from uc college to CC is a wise decision.(Also, maybe give some advice for my situation.)? sorry for the long posts but I had to make it clear for you guys. If there is something you wanted know more about my situation, i will answer your question.

it seems like you dont have much of a choice as to where you want to go at this point. even more so, your parents made the decision already by pulling your tuition funds… :(

if you do have to go to mtsac, you can definitely turn around and go elsewhere or back to UCSD, however your academic records will always follow you. so other colleges may see your 2.6 in a bad way. but there are always ways around it…

the person to talk to is either krystle bybee in the transfer center, or linda diaz in the honors center. (you need an appointment for linda) both of them, linda especially, can help you figure out a VERY well thought out plan as to what to do.

in the mean time, if there are questions u have about mtsac, feel free to shoot me a pm or just post back :D

It’s a very wise decision, because you’re not ever going to be able to graduate from any university without passing a freshman-level composition course. Get it done now and the options will open up for you.
